If anyone just wants to pull some inventory data into Excel, its easy to do and it doesn't require a purchased ODBC driver. Here's a blog post on how to go about it.

As a note of caution, try to create a read-only account for reporting and use that instead of root. One wrong command and your DB is hosed with the typical level of access root offers.

I forgot to mention that, thanks. I was using a read only user I setup just for this purpose.
