Hi All,
What we've set up is some restricted apps that are not allowed on student iPads. The app store is open but there is a shared list of apps that are not allowed. If a student installs one of those apps, the next inventory that comes around will put them in a smart group to add a configuration profile to their iPad to lock them to single app mode. This worked great last year once established, but this year, we're seeing kids purposely avoid installing that app that we had selected as the single app mode app.

I'd like to make it an Apple app, like 'clock', or 'calendar' and have googled the Bundle ID for the apple apps but it doesn't seem to be working. You can't select the app from the list because it isn't in the app catalog because it's already on the iPad...

Anyone use this and have success?

Why not instead deploy a Configuration Profile that is Very Restricted?

Deploying a configuration profile that is very restricted doesn't fit with our philosophy of keeping the creativity and exploration ability intact while still working to keep students safe and on task.

The Single App mode is temporary is it not? The Restricted Profile would be as well. They are certainly being creative in keeping that app off! <grin>

What app did you lock them to last year? <curious>

One of the reasons we chose to use single app mode is that it makes it obvious to people who view the iPad what has happened. Last year we used the same app, the mobile version of our SIS which lets kids view their grades and class schedules. We deployed initially with configurator though last year so had that app as non-uninstallable so it was guaranteed to be there.
