Has anyone seen errors like this when setting up SMTP? See attached images as well as pasted error message

Yes, you need to configure the gsuite domain to allow less secure apps, and you may need to turn it on for the individual account as well:

https://myaccount.google.com/lesssecureapps

2FA will also cause messages not to send so be careful about that as well.
