software updates not being populated by recon

I have software updates checked in the inventory preferences but when i run recon i get output like this.
sudo jamf recon
Retrieving Inventory Preferences from https://jss//...

with no attempt to look for updates, i have internal local update servers i have hundreds of computers reporting updates needed, i am on 8.4. any ideas?

Under Inventory Options> INventory Collection Preferences - have you ticked the box to say "Collect Available Software Updates"? This got me recently

login to the system, run softwareupdate -l as root
debug why thats not working. if you have proxies you must have an internal update server too.
