Previously duplicate machines in the Sophis Enterprise Console used to be fixed in the /etc/smb.conf by specifying the workgroup.

Unfortunately in Mac OS 10.8+ there is no /etc/smb.conf

At the mo there is no fix and i had to spread to 3 different people at Sophos to explain what the problem is.

10.8.1 client when entered with that says

No operation specified nor update requested

Thanks for looking though

I have fixed it manually. It is the Workgroup gui field in the WINS tab

Unfortunately i have no idea how to do this via terminal

I ran into this issue myself so I thought I would post what has seemed to work in early testing.
Modify this file in the package that you intend to deploy for your Sophos AV installation:
SophosAntiVirus.mpkg/Contents/Packages/SophosRMS.mpkg/Contents/Resources/agent.configuration

It should look similar to this:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARE] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARESophos] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARESophosRemote Management System] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARESophosRemote Management SystemManagementAgent] "ServiceDescription"="Management Agent for Sophos applications"
"ServiceArgs"=""
"ServiceHomeDir"="/Library/Sophos Anti-Virus/RMS/"
"DomainNameOverride"="YourDomainHere"
