I've seen a few threads on JAMFnation from folks using Synology NAS to host their Casper packages. I'm thinking of going this way myself (migrating off an Xserve) and wonder if anyone has good / bad experiences to pass along.

IOW, I know it's possible ... I just need to know if it's a bad idea for some reason!

This is a smallish site -- 2 college Mac labs, 45 client machines altogether, approx. 400 users

thanks!

Not a bad idea but you'd probably be just fine with an SSD (external or internal) and another as backup for good measure ?

For our remote sites we use Mac Minis, internal SSDs which back up to a SD card. The added benefit of running this on the mini is Caching server.
