A useful tool that I've found on the iOS side of things is iFunBox. It installs on Windows or OS X and allows access to the directory structure of the device, as well as the Apps.

Kismac (http://http://kismac-ng.org/) is another helpful IP range scanner, and it's free. The catch is it hasn't been updated since 2011 and appears to crash every time a scan is initiated. If it ever gets updated, it would be an alternative to WiFi Explorer.
