All of our users have a home directory with the same structure. e.g. within the root there is a Documents and Desktop folder, which if they log into Windows systems is automatically redirected and Offline Files takes care of Sync.



I'd like to replicate this on the Mac so when a user logs in their network Desktop and Documents folders are synchronized with the network share. The root of the network share is automatically mounted on OS X as part of their mobile account.



Looking at the Sync Rules I am not quite sure what to enter, as I would have expected something like a source and destination field but there only the ability to add a path. So, if I wanted to sync homedesktop to the local desktop what would I need to do?

This topic has been brought up before but it never really went anywhere. The homesync feature was deprecated by Apple with 10.6 and I personally haven't seen any other attractive options.



Is anyone still using home sync in 10.9+ and find it to be working reliably?

I wish it was deprecated enough there was a setting I could fully disable it via config profiles. Right now we do our best setting it to not sync any folders, but still when our mobile users login some small pref files are written to their home directory. Ticket with Apple said this was because our home directories mount via AFP. Will see what 10.10 brings I guess.

We have been using Home Sync since 10.8 and now migrating staff to 10.10 with no issues to report. I use a script to mounts the user "H" drive at login and also provided the script in Self-Service when they are connected via VPN.

@LuisT it's good to see someone having a good experience with homesync. I may need to go back and give it another look.



I was looking through old jamfnation posts and saw one user recommended using http://synkron.sourceforge.net I haven't tried it myself yet but thought I would pass it on.
