We recently upgraded from JSS 8.x (which uses MAC Address as primary identifier) to 9.x (which uses UUID).

Is it possible for a computer that last checked in when we were on JSS 8.x to be reimaged under JSS 9.x, and show up as a duplicate?

We have not seen any issue, but the question came up and we wanted to see if someone here has the answer before we open a ticket.

TIA,
Don

Having the same issue did you find anything out on this issue?

Hi @guzmanhm, yes thanks for the reminder...JAMF's response:

Hey Don:

Thank you for reaching. This question actually comes up often after a machine comes back from repair. Once the client is re-inventoried you will receive a duplicate record.

Interesting the few machines that I'm seeing have not been into repair do you think there could be a different issue?

Anything that changes the UDID...not sure how that value is determined.

A feature request might be to flag any duplicate Serial Numbers and prompt to remediate?

Here is the Feature Request that JAMF implemented to get away from MAC Addresses:

Don't use MAC address as primary identifier
