For the last couple of years a group of JNUC attendees has gone out for a run on the first morning before the keynote. We're doing it again in Kansas City, and everyone's welcome — I do mean everyone.

Wednesday, September 23. Meet at 6:20am outside the Kansas City Convention Center's 13th Street entrance (301 W 13th St). We run at 6:30.

It's roughly three miles. Down Main Street to Union Station, then we walk up Memorial Hill to the National WWI Museum together, where the whole downtown skyline is laid out below you in the light just before sunrise. Then back the same way. You'll be at the doors by 7:15 with plenty of time to shower before the 8:45 keynote.

The important part: this is not a race and it is not a fast group. We run at a talking pace and we stay together. If you'd rather walk some of it, someone will walk with you. There's a shorter turnaround at 0.85 miles, and the KC Streetcar back up Main Street is free if you've had enough. Nobody gets left behind.

If this is your first JNUC, come along. Half an hour on the road with a handful of strangers does more for your week than any amount of milling around the expo hall.

Route, timings, what to bring and my mobile number are all here: https://jnuc-community-run-2026.replit.app

One thing to be clear about: this is organised by attendees, not official JNUC programming. No sponsor, no sign-up sheet, no medal. Just turn up.

If you're in, reply here or find me in the MacAdmins Slack. Any questions, ask away — especially the "am I too slow" one, where the answer is always no.

I enjoyed the run last year in Denver. I am excited to join again in Kansas City.
