Apologize if this was answered before, I searched admin guide and forum, but no dice.

Am I missing the checkbox to force individual policies to use AFP/SMB in 9.x? or was that functionality lost in the upgrade from 8?

In the policy page under the Packages tab. You have to select "Specific file share distribution point" under Distribution Point, then a check box will show up letting select force afp/smb.

thanks @tron_jones I'm glad it's at least there, though having to tie that package to one distribution point is less than ideal when you're talking about thousands of machines tied over multiple distribution points. I'm not misunderstanding am I?

Yea its not very friendly for policies that spread across multiple distribution points. I would like to see that option available as an option in "Network Segments" to force the whole segment to use afp/smb and fallback on http. Maybe i'm missing something as well and this is possible but thats all i've seen so far when setting a policy.

We just upgraded to JSS 9.32 and this is a big issue for us now also. We actually have distribution points in each of our buildings, and having to point to one specific dist. point for every policy in order to "Force file sharing over AFP/SMB" single-handedly defeats the intent of having a local dist. point. Is there a way to force policies globally to use AFP/SMB?

For anyone else interested in forcing policies to use AFP from 'default' distribution point, vote up this feature req

CasperSally,
I got a response to this issue that resolved our issue with AFP/SMB. Please feel free to check it out on this thread:

and see if that will work for your environment.

Thanks . we want to use HTTP downloads and AFP, so unfortunately, I don't think that helps us.

@CasperSally I missed it too:

Then we moved our DP's to HTTP (internally).
