Greetings.

I learned today that, when using Workgroup manager with the printers routed through the server, it is possible to require an administrator password to print to specific printers. I have a teacher who would like me to do this so that students do not print to a color printer without permission.

Is there a way to do this using Casper? The key in com.apple.mcxprinting is RequireAdminToPrintLocally, but I don't see how I'd set it to work with a printer that was not also deployed via MCX (and it is not clear to me that I can deploy a printer via MCX using Casper).

check the -u switch to lpadmin. it allows queue access to users and groups. i'm sure there are other ways to do it, but you can create the queue using lpadmin with the correct access in one line, if you want.

You can set this in a Configuration Profile where checked printers require an administrator password to print.
