Applying a users filtering through a proxy

Hi all,

A little bit out of my remit here! We have a script that assigns the proxy details for internet access on the mac network and the filtering solution we use is websense.
At the moment we block Google because of their changes to https traffic across our site.

A user wants Google allowed and we can do this through websense and it works on the windows clients, yet on the Mac the filtering change doesn't apply when she log's on.

Can anyone advise me on this and how i can get the macs to regonise the change. The change would of been made within A.D.

    Hi @g1za,

    How are you setting up the proxy?

    If your Websense proxy is using AD authentication, it should pick up the new access via Group Membership as per a PC user.

    But if your pushing out the user details, are they the same as the user?

    Our Websense is kerberised & we see the access change reflected.

    The proxy is set via a script and pushed out by a policy.
    The user gets a pop up box initially to enter in their credentials and then it's remembered.

    What i need to do is for the user to be able to put in the authentication again in the hope that it updates the changes.

    @g1za, sounds like you're using NTLM authentication.

    If your WebSense appliance supports it, I'd suggest moving to Kerberos.

    For us, it was on the roadmap & was a simple & affective change. Not sure if it's something you can investigate.
