@j_allenbrand This is what a Restricted Software configuration is for in Jamf Pro. You can block apps/processes, and it doesn't utilize the Parental Control feature of macOS.

Hi @sdagley ;
More than one-year later...
Do you know a way to block apps by type? the Restricted Software manual page still says that is by process name. I would really like to find a way to manage by group/class of software

@Ezeq You're going to need something besides Jamf Pro's Restricted Software to do what you're asking. A couple of tools for that you might want to look at (don't read this as an endorsement of either, just pointing out a couple of options) are:

https://github.com/google/santa

https://www.beyondtrust.com/privilege-management/windows-mac

That's the marketing pages for the product, the technical pages for the Mac version are here:  https://www.beyondtrust.com/docs/privilege-management/mac/index.htm

Hey!
Thanks, your reply put me on the right track.
I even managed to find another possible solution https://thycotic.com/products/privilege-manager/
🙂 This was a class of software that I was not aware that existed (:
