Hi!
I have three intel imacs all netbooted to same Netboot image, using
Casper Imaging  v. 7.3.1, installing same OS package from the same
distribution point.
One of these, a 32-bit, will more often than not but not EVERY time
zip through "block Copy", THEN "erase HD", then install the OS package
the "slooooow" way...
The others work correctly every time.
Problem also occurs using either distribution point.
i have re-indexed the package, which ultimately works fine once it's
installed. I have deleted the problem imac from the JSS and created a
new record.
Seems like the problem has to be in my netboot image or Casper Imaging.app.
Local HDs are all formatted same.
Here are the relevant (I think?) log entries:

looks like disk I/O problems with some kernel extensions. If this client in particular is causing issues try maybe swapping out the HD if you can. I have seen some very funky stuff with imaging and defective, slow, intermittently failing HDs. Since my enterprise is mostly laptops we have a lot of HD failures just from the students being a bit rough on the laptop and the HD banging around in their back packs.

Silly me!
I was sure it was a model thing and never really though it about it
being THAT computer!!
Thanks for saving me from re-doing my netboot image for nothing!
