Hi guys,
I've got a Black Macbook & am trying to create a custom install in casper admin from a new iMac's OS DVD.
But whenever I tick the box to tell casper admin I get the message:
"The installer could not be run on this computer:
Error - "
I'm using casper admin 7.2.
Does this mean I need to create this custom install on the iMac itself?

Most likely it's because that DVD is specific to the iMac. You'll want to utilize the latest retail OS X dvd instead.

Is the machine you're running Casper Admin from also running Snow Leopard? I
believe the OS on the host computer needs to be the same as the DVD for this
to work properly.

Hey all,
I just thought I'd add a clarification to this...
When scanning an OS X Installer with Casper Admin, it must be done on hardware capable of running the installer used. (see Step 2, Item 3 of Adding a Disk Image of a Mac OS X Installer DVD on page 141 of the Casper Suite Reference Manual for version 7.2)
There are instances where using hardware-specific install media is warranted. Hardware released between Mac OS X combo updaters will need to have an OS installed/built from the OS installer that shipped with the hardware in question.
For example, the current iMac 27" ships with Mac OS X 10.6.2 build 10C2234. The 10.6.2 combo updater is build 10C540. If I had a need to image the iMac 27", I'd upload a copy of it's hardware-specific installer to my JSS.
Similarly, when compiling a configuration that contains an OS installer, it must be done on a Mac capable of running the installer in question.
For example, compiling a configuration for the iMac 27", using the hardware-specific installer would need to take place on an iMac 27".
I hope this answers some questions.
