I was kind of thinking hardware as well, I can however image the drive via target mode and successfully zeroed the drive. This of course doesn't guarantee that the HD is fine but makes it less likely there is an issue I'd think. RAM is a good place to look though. I'll mess around. Thanks for the ideas.
