been trying to use composer the last couple of days for a normal snapshot pkg, and when I try to create any package I am getting errors saving the pkg, but I am trying to save to the desktop, have logged in as an admin and the regular user. Not sure if its something wrong with my image or if its something to do with Composer as I have not used this version yet.

+24Are you using an LDAP-based account? (even though it's an admin.)
Composer occasionally has issues with UIDs that are long, e.g. from various LDAP setups like Active Directory - 9 digits in our case. Using a local account is the most reliable way to get around this.
