Firefox preference issues

I have seen this myself this very afternoon. A file as user was downloading was trying to save itself into a location the user has no access to.

My colleague spent some time working this out but here goes.

Change the download location in FireFox to where you want the file saved.

Safari and then go into preferences and in general select the download location (you may notice that it points to the location giving you the error) change it to the locaton you wish to save to. Come out of the preferences.

In FireFox you should now be able to download to the correct location.

Hopefully this should fix this for you. Im not sure why this happens but its very weird. What version of FireFox is being used we have 2.0.0.6.

That's a great little tip for default settings, Rich...I hadn't thought of that obviously.

For the life of me I couldn't get the silly thanks for upgrading to FireFox setting to stick to not show that page the first time it's launched. Not that I've succeeded at fixing that yet.

I'm pretty sure the download settings are held in the
com.mozilla.firefox.plist file within the prefs folder and most other
settings like home page, default browser selection, bookmarks, ect are held
in the App Support Firefox folder. So my suggestion is to not push the
plist and only the firefox folder which includes a profiles folder.

If you have default preferences you can set them up in the defaults folder
in the app itself. Right click on firefox and show package contents. Then
mac os then defaults then profiles. Here is where you can set defaults for
each new user the first time firefox is launched. For more information, see

You can also setup default bookmarks here.

Because each time firefox makes new prefs the path to the folder is named
differently you really can not do it any other way.
