Has anyone been successful in deploying Cisco Security Connector to supervised ipads?

We are currently testing it with the Cisco Umbrella product. We've deployed it to 3 test iPads and its working, though it has a few flaws. Are you using the Umbrella product or Clarity? Cisco never sent us the generic instructions. We got it set up via a conference call with them and JAMF, after they approved us as beta testers. According to Cicso integration with JAMF isn't ready yet.

We are using the umbrella product. I am expecting a call from a tier one support specialist at JAMF. What kind of flaws?

The Cisco Security Connector app is needed in addition to the config profile. Once the app and profile are installed, if a student deletes the app they are no longer filtered. We don't want to restrict students from being able to delete apps. We can hide the app, but haven't been able to come up with a good workflow to do this. In testing we set the app to automatically install, and then hide. We found if the app gets hidden to soon after installation, the iPad isn't protected. This is easy to fix for newly enrolled devices, but for the 12,000 devices that are already out there we're not sure how to handle this without touching them. Our concern is once students find out this is how we'll be filtering them from home, students will delete the app after it installs and before it's hidden.

I've got an open ticket with Jamf Support about getting this working in our environment too. I am curious if there has been any updates with this. Are you guys still considered Beta Testers or has it moved past that point yet? We are having trouble getting the configuration to work properly on our test device, so I'm just fishing for any information concerning this since we are hoping to implement this app soon.

Have you had any luck getting it to work. I have been on and off this project for about a month but can finally concentrate on it now that school is about to let out

As far as I know, we are still Beta testers. We were going to move forward and deploy the app before the end of the school year. However, during additional testing we found that Umbrella wasn't filtering to the level that our in-house filter is filtering. We won't be moving forward until that issue is resolved.

@Ktrojano During your testing did you find that if you rebooted the device when the app was hidden it was then unfiltered? We are using Cisco Security Connector in our environment and are running into students deleting the app. We currently use smart groups to try and punish them but this requires an inventory update to work. The problem with hiding the app I saw was that it lost its settings once the iPad was restarted.

@djs9812 Did you end up getting this working? I know this is an old thread about it. They have full support for Jamf now so its a bit easier to setup.

Yes, we did find that, but we also found that Security Connector didn't filter to the extent that our in-house filter was filtering. In testing, we were able to get to several in-appropriate websites that were blocked by our in-house filter. We decided not to go with Security Connector to filter students at home.
