HTTP File Share Distribition Point Trouble

Today I updated my HTTP File Share Distribution point from 10.11.3 to 10.11.4.

As expected Server.app uncommented port 80 in /Library/Server/Web/Config/Proxy/apache_serviceproxy.conf, so I commented it back out.

However, the HTTP downloads still don’t work.

I tried removing the symlink, then recreated the symlink:

sudo ln -s /Path/To/CasperShare/ /Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites/Default/CasperShare

I can see that the symlink is there.

On the server itself I try http://127.0.0.1/CasperShare/Packages/package.pkg and that doesn’t work. Other systems I use http://server.pretendco.com/CasperShare/Packages/package.pkg and still no joy.

I added _www as a read user to CasperShare. Still no joy!

Any insights? This has driven me nuts!

For now I turned off http, which brings up another question. Is it OK for me to leave off HTTP and still be able to use browsers to hit http://127.0.0.1/CasperShare/Packages/package.pkg and http://server.pretendco.com/CasperShare/Packages/package.pkg?

When trying to solve this issue I found the solution to getting HTTPS to work on a FSDP. I'm stoked about that.

I suppose I could nuke & pave this server, but I’d prefer to avoid that.
