Import of Classes from ASM imports only Class Name as the Display Name; doesn't id the individual sections

Class Display ID's imported from ASM are listed as the Course Name. For example, the course "Science 8" has 4 classes/sections (Science801, Science802, Science803, Science804), but each entry in Classes is called "Science 8". Doesn't it makes sense that each class should be named like Sciencexx.

Teachers have to guess in the Apple Classroom app which section is which, since each section of the course has the same name. Teachers can change the display name by hand in JAMF Pro, but it get changed back if there any updates in the ASM.

What do others do?

I am having the same problem. I edit the classes on the JSS but the next day it reverts back to the default name.

Did you find a solution the problem?

We are seeing the same problem here. It really makes no sense that the display name is not the course name and the class number at the very least.

Is anyone else also seeing this as a problem and does anyone have a workaround?

There is a feature coming out with the next version of the JSS that allows you to customize the name of imported classes using fields from Apple School Manager. Hopefully that will solve this for you!

@peter Any idea when this new release will happen? We have had some "bad press" from teachers who are frustrated by this experience. I was hoping this would have been resolved by now. Thank you,

Matt

@Eggsabyte That feature was released with 9.98 and is documented here.

The new update does allow you to name the course, but still does not solve the section details as mentioned in this original post.

@brandonhazzard We've exposed the fields that are provided by Apple's API to be used in the class naming pattern, but the information available in the API doesn't match up exactly with what's available in the Apple School Manager UI. Which Apple School Manager field contains the section information you're looking for?

@peter...we realized it wasn't a section name but class name. We are all good. Thanks for the help!

@peter We realized that the naming was wrong. We were looking for sections but in fact were needing class name. We are all good now. Thank you for your help!

@peter Our section info from the PowerSchool Connector are placed in class_number.
