Inventory - No Updates Available

Hi all,

I am new to the Casper Suite, we have 8.1 installed and configured with our 200 Macs in the Inventory so far. All Macs are reporting all the inventory information we have asked to report with the exception of available software updates. All of the Macs are reporting 0 updates available, even for Macs running below 10.6.7. If I use ARD and run softwareupdate –l on some Macs I know should have updates then it indeed comes back and lists them.

Collect Available Software Updates is ticked under the Inventory Collection Preferences and all the Macs are using the default Apple software update server.

Any help with this issue would be much appreciated.

    Can you run the softwareupdate command on the server? Are you using a proxy?

    Using a proxy will cause this problem (it will also make inventory take much longer). Casper uses curl to check for updates in this instance (and only this instance), and curl doesn't respect Mac proxy settings.
