What's everyone using to collect inventory of their Windows clients? SCCM is awful, and we wouldn't mind using something with an agent.

Has anyone used OCS Inventory NG?

@Emmert Recon has an EXE that can be deployed to inventory PC's into the JSS.

Will this add to my Casper license count?

You should talk to your JAMF account rep about that. Its a bit unclear. Windows computers show up as unmanaged devices since Casper can't actually manage them, just collect inventory. Whether they eat up actual licenses though - I'm not sure, but I think the answer may be yes.

We have some unmanaged mobile devices in our JSS (basically just inventory record, we don't manage them in any way since they are testing devices for our Development team) and we don't pay for those licenses. I get the impression that your seat count is for managed licenses only. Though, again, your account manager will have the correct answer to this question.

Thanks guys, I'll ask our account manager.

Edit: what other SCCM alternatives are out there?

License counts against managed only. You can have as many PC as you want, JAMF will only count the macs.
The PCs can't be scope in anyway except via saved search.

There is a charge for windows devices being reconned.

Some recent conversation on Twitter on this.

Would be nice for some clarification though, perhaps a link to an official doc.

Maybe @tlarkin or @amanda.wulff can point us in the right direction?
