Is "Change at Next Authentication" for password requirements a one time change?

Hi,
We are looking at increasing the amount of characters needed for passcode in the config profile.
Is the "Change at Next Authentication" a one time change and if not how often does it repeat? Cannot find an answer in Jamf documentation.
