JSS Setup Utility vs ????

Not applicable

So we've gone ahead and upgraded from Casper 8.0 to 8.22. So far, so
good. A lot of the database scans and purging of old entries is far
faster. But...

I'm curious why the JSS Setup Utility application was dropped from the
Casper Suite. Of course, I can use the tools available in the JSS over
at Settings -> Database/Web Application Health but... the Setup
Utility.app had more options like:

+ tomcatpermission repair/flush caches
+ filesharing permission repair
+ performing back-ups/restores of backups
+ running a script against the mySQL database

Yes, i know there's the new JSSDatabaseUtil.jar located at
/Library/JSS/bin. But that's a second/separate application and I liked
the simplicity of being able to run ANY of my server updates/repair
work through one interface.

My question: is there ANY HARM in using an older version of the JSS
Setup Utility app (from, say, Capser 8.0) to run these same functions
on my 8.22 JSS?

I'd strongly recommend not using an older version. The JSS Setup Utility has a lot of the repair/setup scripts baked into it and you're in a good amount of danger of farking it up if you use it.

JAMF had advised me to only use v8's JSS Setup Util for distribution point replication. (which doesn't seem to work).

Also, the app has been dropped for now whilst JAMF create a cross-platform version.

I haven't tried it, but I think if you use the old util, it will install
that version back on...
