Hi Folks,

Anyone experience this after Casper Imaging starts up from a NetBooted image

Connection Error connection to https://our.jss.server.com/8443/: 6
It fails then I get the LaunchPad

However

If I hold down Option at launch of CasperImaging from the LaunchPad, I am presented to type in the jss address. I use the IP of the machine, tick Allow Invalid Certificate and gets me to the CasperImaging Application… When I try to image the machine, it erases the disk (which I chose to) but goes down the payload list in less than 10 seconds then reboots the machine back to the NetBoot image and the cycle repeats.

At first I thought the mac had a bad drive.. So I used another machine and same thing.
Last night when I left work, I imaged a machine over night and found it this morning booted as it should with all packages.

Not sure what happened over night.

Today from my workstation, If I do jamf checkJSSConnection I get back The JSS is available…
I rebooted the JSS server as well and still no joy :(

Seems the error is when it's NetBooted.

Anyone?
Thanks in advance!!

I saw this when tomcat needed restarting... But restarting the box should've done that.

Ben.

Did you create a NEW netboot image before this happened?

I only have one netBoot image and been doing fine until this morning.

Just tried CasperRemote on my workstation to install CyberDuck and fails with Authentication Failure
Then launched CasperImaging on my workstation to try to install CyberDuck and got this pop-up

I am the only Casper Admin, so no one else tinkers with it… Don't understand what happened… JSS Utility reports everything is fine.

Wow.. Solved..

When I ran AppleSoftwareUpdater on my workstation, which connects to the same box as the JSS, I got "cannot find so-and-so-.company.com"

Huh??

Then I did trace route to our jss.. Hostname not found

Looked at the DNS Server… the A Record was gone!!!

Is MS's DNS service always this useful? Or was this done by 'hand'?

All is working again!

Thanks all

To quote a Microsoft support person when we were having a DNS issue on Active Directory (which runs its own DNS service):

"We never purported to follow the standard"

In our case, there was a problem because a hostname was in all uppercase characters. The RFC says it shouldn't matter. Active Directory's DNS cared. A lot.
