MCX com.apple.desktop

Not applicable

I am managing a preference to give the user (when they initially log in)
a particular desktop. It's set to "User Level at Next Login Only" which
is basically, "once". They can sure change it, but when they log out and
log back in, it reverts back to the old desktop. Is there a reason for
this? Am I missing something?

I think that is because the nature of MCX refreshes itself at log in/out
so it gets changed back.

Well I dunno, is mcx and mine work fine for "once" settings , but i use an od and computer level managment, so it's either Casper or the desktop pref that cause this

My desktop pref is set as always, but iysed to do as once and it stuck during log off

A computer level MCX setting will be applied and enforced globally, to
all users. So it will over write even group or user level policy.

I haven't had time or even a chance to really look at how Casper 7
handles MCX but once I get a few seconds to myself I will look it up and
see if I can't come up with some examples and post them on my site.

Or, if anyone already has some, please share.

Thanks

If this particular setting were being pushed via WGM as opposed to Casper It would sound like it was set to Often or Always, as opposed to Once. I have a rather built out set of MCX rules going out so I am avoiding the Casper ones, but in looking at the setup in my JSS I am not seeing a way to set frequency for refreshing the mcx record on the machine. It would seem to me that as it is, your desktop policy has set the User's MCX record and now will dutifully reset the desktop each time the use logs back in.

I'd suggest looking at the Managed Client settings as they appear in System Profiler when you are logged in as a managed user. Those values will show you what the Compositor determined at login for that specific user.
