Off Topic - Need Help LanDesk vs Casper

I am being asked to meet with reps from LanDesk to discuss their Mac management piece. We are a LanDesk shop here for our PC’s. Management wants to try to get us to one console. I have not looked at Landesk in several years now. I am hoping some of you may have looked at it more recently and could give me some info so I can better defend the need to continue using Casper, and to reject Landesk. LanDesk is, as they were before promising all sorts of improvements, but since I have not used it, or seen it in action on a Mac for a long time, I don’t want to be caught short. Please any info at all would be helpful, and appreciated. They (LanDesk) are going to be talking about version 9 of their product.

    Hi Sean,

    Have you asked your JAMF Account Manager if the company can provide you with any competitor comparison information? They may know what they have over their competition.

    I know nothing of LanDesk. One of the reasons JAMF doesn’t go beyond Macs, at least this is what I’ve been told in the past, is that they want to do one thing well, and that’s manage Macs. They don’t have to try to spend resources making multiple platforms work, aside from different OS versions of Mac OS. I’d also be willing to bet JAMF support is a lot better.

    When we were looking at Casper v. LanDesk v LanRev the thing that really set Casper apart was the Self Service. In our environment anyway, it's a very important feature. Gartner also recommends going with best-of-breed if your installed base is large enough rather than trying to shoe-horn it all into one system. One system will do everything ok, rather than separate systems tuned to each platform.
