Office 12.2.3 updater

Hi-

Has anyone figured out what changed in Microsoft's Office 12.2.3 updater? In the past, the updaters were looking for package receipts in /Library/Receipts and if receipts weren't there (but the right versions of the applications the updater will say that a proper version was not found.

I've been fiddling to see if the 12.2.3 updater will actually fix some of our broken installs that are missing the package receipts and it appears at first glance to not care what is in /Library/Receipts. Can anyone else confirm this??

Thanks

I don't have this problem with the patch but I have to push them
through AFP, instead of HTTP. When using HTTP it breaks office. When I
opened a ticket with Jamf they were able to reproduce this problem. Also
I changed the permissions to get it work.

Thus far we have been successful at installing the updates in our lab
using Casper, when doing the permission change. Could we have you try
manually from scratch one more time to make sure that all of your
installers/updaters are functioning properly. If so, and they are still
not working with Casper after doing the permissions change (chmod -R 777
<Office Package?), then I would like to get a copy of the 12.1.0
installer you are using and see if we can re-create this in our lab.

Thanks for the helpful tip.

Is there a way to deploy using AFP on a per package basis, or do I need to edit my distribution point to disable HTTP for the entire distribution point?

It's per point that it would get enabled or disabled, but I'm sure there are clever ways to make multiple points with different DNS pointers to the same server that have different settings. You could in theory tell a policy with over ride which to use.

If your pushing this out with Casper Remote you can use the override
option. I created a smart as shown and then a policy to send out
12.2.3 to the users in the smart group which will install the patch
automatically

Click the Override Default Settings

Force Distribution Points to use AFP

Under Scope select your smart group, I would suggest testing this policy
our first on some test systems before you go live with it.
