Package Deployments

When you go to the Management page do you see "Computer Management" on the left hand side like this:

You will find the package you uploaded using Casper Admin under the Settings page / Casper Admin:

I would suggest you contact your JAMF representative as it looks like you need some initial training on using the software.

You have Computer Enrollment, which we don't. I've clicked on everything under Computer Management and I don't see anything that says "deploy or distribute software"

I've followed the JAMF video that walks you through the Mobile Device App Catalog to add a new package. This works until I get to the "add individual computer or group of computers" when I click on either link the JSS sees no computers.

As for training I'd love to take it but there is no $$$ for it. We have a total of 100 Mac's in our environment. We have 15,000+ Windows machines so 99.5% of my focus is on Windows. Sorry to this whole board for not knowing more but I only have a limited amount of time to work on JSS and from what I've seen it is not very intuitive when it comes to software deployments.

In SCCM from Microsoft they have a PACKAGES area where it is very clear what to do. Nowhere in JSS does it have a link that says "application deployments or packages" It is all Mobile Apps and our Mac desktops are not mobile.

And yes, I do see my package under the Admin section. it is a DMG file.

If you have already uploaded a package through the Casper Admin application, then get this document and Start on pg. 290:

If your responsible for it, I'd advise investing 1 day and read the whole admin guide through. If you can grasp SCCM, this will be a breeze.

Is it possible that your login doesn't have all the "privileges" enabled to deploy software?

Settings>Accounts>Username>Privileges

ok, I found it. POLICIES !!! Being a 100% Windows dude policies are really not used for software distribution. Surprised no one said to look at policy on this board.

But in Windows GPO's in a large company are NEVER used to deploy software. That is why I kept looking for something that freakin' said "software deployment"

Welcome aboard by the way. In the past we have used GPOs to push out MSIs but I agree that this is not normal in the Windows world. Now that we have SCCM 2012 we are using this to push stuff out.

Stick with it with Casper, you'll soon become bilingual. My background is as a Windows dude but I was handed responsibility for our Macs simply because the guy I replaced was the Mac dude. It's been a fun couple of years and I am still learning more and more but that is what I love about IT in general.

Yeah, not quite the same thing. Managed Preferences in Casper would be akin to GPOs. Policies in Casper are quite different.
