Policy logs not sorting by date by default?

Hi Everyone,

We are on JSS 9.9 and it could be me, but when I look at policy logs in the JSS, they aren't being sorted automatically by date. I swear prior to 9.9, when looking at these logs to see the status of a policy, they were always sorted by date.

Anyone else seeing this as well? Is there a fix for this or a setting I am missing?

Thanks!

Mick

I noticed this as well. I believe it's sorting by name. :(

Hey guys,

Thanks for posting the discussion. This behavior has been filed today and queued for reviewal by our Product Specialist team. It's tentatively filed as PI-002113 at this time until it can be confirmed.

Hope this helps!

Updated to 9.9 and logs sorting by name and defaulting to only show 10 entries

Also when adding to config profile scope the computers, computer groups and users are sorted randomly!

Ugh that is not good at all. I was really looking forward to upgrade to 9.9. Going so far as to even prepare a new NBI and QuickAdd package for CasperCheck. Are you able to re-sort using the headers at least? That might not matter if its only showing 10 entries though.

I've also added this to the unofficial bug tracker:

@paul.nichols It's also only defaulting to showing 10 entries every time instead of remembering what was previously selected.

@smurphyusd346 No worries -- I've documented that part of it as well. Thanks again for letting us know!

Yes it seems after our JSS 9.9 upgrade, all policy logs are sorting by name and defaulting to only show 10 entries and if you make the change for a larger number it is not staying.

Also noticing this behavior after updating to 9.9 (we were at 9.81 before). No issues prior.

Anyone upgrade to 9.91 and see if this is resolved?

@Person That's what I'm using :/

I have updated to 9.91 and it is still the same.

Everything appears the same as it was in 9.9.

@snovak That is disappointing. Hopefully this will get resolved soon, it is cumbersome looking through policy logs now.

Hey all,

Just to update on this issue:

We did originally have this filed as a Product Issue (PI-002113), as mentioned earlier on in this thread, and the feedback that we received was that is that this was an intentional change made to the code for performance reasons.

There is not currently a way to save sorting by Date/Time as the default or to save a default to showing more than 10 at once; it must be done each time you go in to view the policy logs.

I’d recommend making a Feature Request if you’d like to see it changed; our Product Management and Development teams do look through Feature Requests, and they do provide helpful feedback to them.

Thanks!

see this issue myself. Seems each time a version comes out, more problems also come with it.

I wonder if the code performance outweighs the annoyance of users who live in the product all day long and are constantly resorting by date/time and want to see more than 10 records at a time. I think sorting by date/time by default would be an improvement if >10 records at a time is the real performance killer.

With how slow our cloud-hosted JSS instance has been loading late, re-sorting the logs has been a real pain in the side. +1 @CasperSally

@amanda.wulff Just an FYI, not sure if this is because of the recent code change but the link that @emily posted originally leads to a 404 page: https://www.jamf.com/jamf-nation/jamf-nation/feature-requests/4891/preference-to-set-date-time-sort-on-log-page

The actual link for the feature request is now:
