remote lock a MacBook Air

Hello,
One of our staff at the University forgot her laptop on plane, we understand that the device was bought from eBay, I used Lock Computer then I received a message "The JSS has received a feedback error from the APNs Server"
Can anyone tell me if the Laptop is Locked or not?

    According to few sources, it appears the APNs push cert has expired and was never renewed. Only solution if that is the case is to manually re-enroll it... which is a problem
