Scoping Software

Hi All,

Just got Jamf and have a test Mac enrolled. When scoping a software install, should I set the policy to ongoing and just scope to the smart group of computers that doesn’t have the software?

My concern about putting all computers and going once per computer is that it gets removed and I don’t know! I guess I could do a smart group email notification.

Thanks for any help,
Jared

Personally, I'm a fan of the approach you described.
It saves you the pain of flushing logs of failed policies all day long, and you get the benefit of knowing that the software will be put back in place if removed (if that's what you want).
Jamf will probably tell you it's not best practice, and you have to be REALLY careful with your scoping, as you can put lots of load on your JPS if that's wrong and all your computers start installing all the software every 15 minutes ;)
Have a look at this talk, I think it describes the scenario quite nicely:

Thanks @Chris. I set the logs to flush every week and also am getting notifications if a policy fails. I decided to host on a VM myself instead of Jamf Cloud. No issues so far, just making sure I am taking regular snapshots and backing up the database.
