When hitting the Refresh button in Self Service, does that force a check in? I was under the impression that it simply forced Self Service to refresh with new policies set for self service.

Does it also check the machine in and update inventory?

I don't think it does.

I have a self Service policy that does nothing other than forces an inventory update available on demand as an ongoing, yet Self Service, policy to handle just that need. Its available and openly scoped to our entire fleet.

It doesn't check in. You could also open Terminal and type: sudo jamf recon

I noticed that...I guess doing a recon does an inventory update and check in...make that one command into a policy

You can make a policy that runs Recon as Ongoing & set to check on Login. That way it's not running ALL the time. Change when it checks at your will, maybe change Ongoing to Once a Day.

If you simply want to do a check-in without inventory update, you can do a "jamf log" command.
