Some iPads have now appeared as unmanaged and cannot be linked to configuration profiles

Apologies if this is covered elsewhere (I've done a quick check but couldn't spot anything obvious). I'm doing my first setup for a small 1-1 iPad deployment in my primary school (30 pupils). All are supervised using Configurator 1.4 and I manually enrolled each one on Casper using the JSS weblink. All looks fine but out of the 30 13 are not able to be added to static or smart groups or sent a configuration profile - I am presuming this is because they show as 'unmanaged' rather than 'managed' which is the case for those which can be configured to remove the app store etc.

Does anyone have any ideas about how to get these iPads setup to be managed by Casper - I've already tried wiping them completely from Casper, restoring them and redoing everything with Configurator then enrolling them again with Casper, no change...

    There are ALL kinds of issues with AC 1.4 at the moment, especially when in Supervision mode. Do all/any of your supervised iPads have a supervision profile in Settings > General > Profiles, OR have some text listed in Settings> General > Name like "This iPad is being managed by...".

    AC 1.4 has messed us up completely. Any IOS6 machines that have been updated to IOS7, we no longer can manage. We backup the iPad's to iCloud, in case we need to restore to a new iPad, but now if your restore a supervised machine from iCloud, you cannot install a Supervision profile. It removes the Supervision profile, AC 1.4 sees the iPad as Supervised, but refreshing in AC 1.4 will not add a Supervision profile.

    In my view, this is not a Casper issue, but problems with AC 1.4 and Supervision profiles that Casper uses.

    I still stand by what a wise technician told me who supports large iOS deployment

    "I don't trust Configurator as far as I can throw it"

    I'm glad all I use it for is updating OS/restore backup of a few local settings MDM can't push.

    Thanks for the info - I noticed that there is an article in the knowledgebase that seems to refer to this issue when working with enrolled computers - https://jamfnation.jamfsoftware.com/article.html?id=79 - is there a similar 'rescue process' for iPads? Is Apple planning on any fixes to Configurator issues?

    All I've heard from Apple is the boiler plate, "it will be fixed in a later release". Sigh.
    Just as an FYI, In AC 1.4, I can create a backup of an IOS6 iPad, then restore it as I update to IOS7. This is the only way I can update my students supervised IOS6 iPads to IOS7 AND keep management working. Also, I've yet to successfully create a backup of a supervised IOS7 iPad in AC 1.4. So, for those students who could not wait to update to IOS7, I can't simply make a backup of their IOS7 device in AC 1.4, restore it and have management working again.

    I've had roughly half our students perform their own upgrades to iOS7+. The good news is they still an inventory report once they're upgraded, but the MDM profiles show as removed by user.

    I'm bringing our students in a group at a time, opening up Configurator, upgrading or refreshing iPads & profiles, then having the students re-enroll using a web clip & their AD account. Everything gets refreshed and all items deployed by the JSS is refreshed, as well.
