Supervising iPhones and data migration

Hi everyone,

Our company just recently started enrolling iOS devices with JAMF. All new devices are supervised before being given to users. Unfortunately we have a lot of legacy users that we need to migrate.

Ideally I would like make them supervised, instead of just sending self-enrolment invitation. But to do that I have to wipe them with Apple Configurator. I did some research and it looks like it's impossible to restore unsupervised backup on supervised device with iTunes. Is that still the case?

What is the most painless method of supervising existing iPhone users?

Thank you so much!

Have everyone trade phones or use an intermediary device (Back up A, Restore to B. Back up B, restore back to A).
