Hello Everyone,
Hopkins Public Schools, working with Apple and JAMF software, would like to announce a technical workshop we are planning for all day June 18th and 19th to be held at our district offices in Hopkins, MN. This will be hands-on with the latest OS's from Apple and looking at how to manage them in the challenging environments we're all in. You've seen all of the exciting curriculum and business transformation possible with OS X and the iPad, and now we're going to take a couple full days to talk about the nuts and bolts of rolling out these technologies to help enrich learning.

Here are a few topics we'll look at (Still thinking about them, this is nowhere near a final list! Please let me know if you have other ideas!):

OS X (June 18):
Flavors of imaging: Monolithic vs. package vs. thin
Software available for imaging – Apple tools, DeployStudio, Casper
Management – MCX, Profiles and Directory Services, oh my!
PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) – intro and explanation, certificates background (required for OS X and iOS profile management)

iOS (June 19):
App Ownership models – institution vs. personal, implications of either choice
Roll-out/setup – Configuration Profiles, Apple Configurator, etc.
On-going Management – MDM – Configurator, Apple profile manager and Casper MDM
PKI – intro and explanation
VPP – info and how-to; challenges and options with Configurator and Casper Self Service
Self published content - deployment and how-to

We are looking to make both days interactive by actually working with OS X and iOS, so space will be limited so that everyone will have time to interact with tools and get help. We know this is near the busy time for education, so we want to make sure everyone is aware of the tools available and a best-practices approach to roll-out of OS X and iOS. We might even be able to talk about Mountain Lion and iOS 6 by then if you believe the rumor sites!

This workshop will be led by subject matter experts from our Apple System Engineers and JAMF Software Engineers. Sessions will be structured to show what is possible throughout the lifecycle of Apple computers and devices, so there will be plenty of information for everyone, whether you are a JAMF customer or not. A lot is changing really quickly in this space, so our goal is for everyone to learn something and be ready to move forward with your summer projects. I'll say on a personal note, we are building our framework for a zero-touch roll-out of iPads and self published curriculum this fall that I'm excited to talk about! We couldn't have even had that conversation a couple months ago!

**This workshop is targeted at people who will be directly responsible for the decision-making and roll-out of Apple technology and will be technical in nature.

More details and a sign-up will be forthcoming. Please plan now on attending and remember, space will be limited!

I look forward to seeing you on the 18th and 19th!

John

When you get to the site, choose which date and then it'll ask you for the info. You'll get an email confirmation immediately and then a reminder two days before. As space is limited, please only register if you can make it, and if you need to cancel, please do so via the link in the email!

Thanks,
John
