VPN profile and Mojave User Auth Error

I use a profile to push put VPN (IKEv2) to the users.
I use $USERNAME and a empty password field.
After Mojave users get Uers Auth Error after trying to connect.
BUT, if they manually edit the Authentication Settings and enter a password.
It works!

Why? Something is clearly wrong.

Hey Sven!

Just to add to your pain, on the other end of the ikev2 connection there is an unchanged windows server. Oh and jamf pushed or not doesn't matter.

Mojave only
password entered in connection config works
entering password on connect doesn't work

Bumping this thread, as I'm experiencing the exact same issue with my IKEv2 VPN configuration. Only occurs on Mojave.

We have the same issue. One idea I had was to create a self-service item which runs a script which rungs the mobileconfig file which then asks for the username and password...similar to what happens if you run the mobileconfig file on the desktop.

I've submitted a few bug reports // feedback items to Apple about this but never received a response. What's worse is that our VPN profile doesn't work AT ALL on macOS Catalina.
