VPP and Supervised Devices

Hi,

From what I have read it seems a mobile device has to be supervised in order for VPP to work properly, however, in my testing I have been able to assign and revoke apps to devices that are not supervised. Has anyone else had experience with this issue.

Assigning apps is strictly user based and has nothing to do with supervision or not. However silently installing apps to a user's iPad may be a different story.

You can enroll an iPad into JSS that's not supervised, but some of the features in the profiles you create and push out may not work because they're set to only work with supervised devices. That's really the only difference to my understanding. Supervision simply allows for use of more features in the profiles.

supervise devices now. we deployed nearly 20k devices unsupervised and now we have to go back and touch them all again physically to supervise them.
