Wacom Tablet Packaging??

Not applicable

Hi Folks,

We are trying to deploy our Wacom Tablet software/driver to our Macs and I cannot find a way to install it either in a configuration using Casper Admin or remotely using Apple Remote Desktop. Anyone successful in packaging a Wacom tablet software/driver? If so, can you shout back at me and please tell me your secret?

Thanks everyone!

Mick

I just chuck the wacom intuos.pkg into Casper admin & deploy that.

Ben.

We have had good luck with a Composer snapshot install and a reboot of the target computer once installed.
So far so good for Intuos and Bamboo deployments.
Where are you running in to challenges?

I believe we used composer and were able to install via policies.

Interestingly, when I install it either method, Casper or ARD, the package appears to have installed. When a tablet is plugged in and someone opens the system preference to manage the tablet, an error message pops up and asks me to restart or reload the driver. This is SOOO frustrating with everything else working. I called Wacom and they had really no experience with enterprise deployment and the best practice.

Everything else I have packaged works like a charm.

Maybe, I will try and older driver for 10.6?

You need to either reboot or create a script to start their services.

I cannot advise as I install mine as part of my image.. So it's always restarted once installed.

Ben.

Thank you for your quick responses. I repackaged the installer and deployed it to a test Mac. After restarting, it appears to now be working. I am going to run with this version….

Once again, you are all great, whether I am reading your posts or interacting with you!

Thank you!!

Wacom Table 6.3.3.-3 doesn't work from Casper 8.6; tried AFP vs HTTP, cache then install, etc:

Installation failed. The installer reported: Begin Installation Check
theArchictectureType = 7

End Installation Check

Noticed that Composer 8.6 had some trouble packaging this as well. Anyone notice anything with this version?

Nope, attempting to install on iMac and Mac Pro, all 10.6.8. Same issue if attemtping at logout. Tablet connected during install too.

We've never had to repackage any of the Wacom drivers before. I'm happy to test in our LAB environment, since if there is an issue it will effect us at some point. Do you have a direct download link for that driver? If not, can you put the driver on my DropBox folder (check your email)?

I'm having issues installing 6.2.0w4 (http://cdn.wacom.com/U/drivers/mac/pro/WacomTablet_6.2.0w4.dmg) using Casper 8.52. I pulled the .pkg out of the .dmg and uploaded that to my JSS. The policy is set to install it for any trigger. It seems to be an issue with the postflight script, as evidenced by this line: "Can't call method "localizations" on unblessed reference at /Library/Application Support/JAMF/Downloads/Install Wacom Tablet.pkg/Contents/Resources/postflight line 168."

Of course I'm not well-versed in perl, so if anyone can provide some help, that would be great. I had a hunch that it has to do with the fact that the original DMG also contains localization files that are missing during the Casper install. However, if I manually issue the terminal command `sudo jamf policy` the installation succeeds, so now I'm not so sure.

Im having the same issue. DMG can be downloaded from the Wacom site:
http://www.wacom.com/en/support/drivers
WacomTablet_6.3.5w3
I've tried dropping the DMG into Casper Admin and making it available in Self Service. After it runs, Self Service says its successful but its not available in System Prefs- Didnt work.
I've tried dropping the original pkg (that was in the DMG) in Casper Admin and again making it available in Self Service. It flat out fails.
Ive tried packing up the DMG in Composer and it just placed the pkg on the System drive. I tried repackaging the pkg and it says its successful but its not available in System Prefs. False positive again.
Closest I got was doing snap shot in Composer but ended up with error in System Prefs under the Wacom tab "Error with driver you may need to restart or reinstall your driver" After a restart, it still did not work. Anyone find the trick with this yet? Installing the downloaded pkg manually, works perfectly.
Thanks!

I have this problem but it wasnt always this difficult, In the past i used a composer capture but not so much luck this time around.

I've just put the pkg in Self Service. If people want it I just tell them it's in Self Service.

Thinks I will try again its been quite some time!

I have packaged;
Wacom-PenTablet-Bamboo-5.2.6-5 and Wacom-Tablet-Intuos2-6.2.0w4
with the Snapshot method and all good.

You need to Snapshot it as Wacom driver pkg files need a user to be logged in to install. So Snapshot it to overcome this issue.

If you package multiple Wacom drivers, you have to Snapshot all the drivers at once (one package with all the drivers and wacom apps). Drivers and Wacom Apps don't work If you snapshot each driver and installs it separately.

Then Upload it to Casper Admin with "FUT" and "FEU" selected.

I doubt dropping a vendor provided DMG containing package installers into JSS is going to work. :) We've never had problems deploying Wacom PKG/MPKG installers, but if we did, we'd use a wrapper to deploy their PKG/MPKG to /private/tmp and trigger with a postflight script.

Whenever I hear the term "snapshot" I can't help but cringe. There's a reason all that complex logic exists in vendor packages. ;)

Sorry forgot to mention I used wrapper like Don and put it in Self Service. No need to make things hard for yourself ;)

There's some weird ish going on with 10.8.x and Wacom intuos drivers in our environment. Our creative division has a huge fleet of Intuos 1s and 2s, so I can't just deploy the newest driver - 6.3.4 something or other I think. Only supports the 3 4 and 5.

However it seems like the older driver installers, 6.1.5-2 6.2.0-w4 in particular, downright refuse to install as part of a policy, continually failing on one of the postflight routines. What gives? I don't know. I hear it has something to do with how Intuos deals with kernel extensions and how 10.8 looks at intuos installs now. Haven't confirmed that though.

Given that my hands are tied with having to support legacy equipment I can't install higher than the 6.2.0-w4 driver. However since it fails during policy (works through Casper Remote just fine), I ended up repackaging it into a .dmg. This way it just forces the driver and kext file onto the system. Screw you installd...

I think we just snapshotted it ...

I just fought this same issue for several days and finally came across this thread (https://jamfnation.jamfsoftware.com/discussion.html?id=7357). What timsutton mentions is the key. Here's how I got it working:

  1. Open the DMG from Wacom and upload the "Install Wacom Tablet.pkg" into Casper Admin
  2. Setup a policy to cache the package and then add on the Advanced tab to run the command 'export USER=root; installer -pkg /Library/Application Support/JAMF/Waiting Room/Install Wacom Tablet.pkg -tgt / -verbose'

Happy trails,
Eric

maybe JAMF should put in some form of verification that the accounts on JN are legit.

yes, there's that, but I was referring to a preventative measure.

@jwojda - we're on it. There will be additional checks in place in the near future. Fortunately we don't get too much SPAM, but when we do, we appreciate everyone who notifies us.

We snapshotted it as well, the .pkg directly out of Casper just wasn't getting it done.

Deploying this via Self Service with the EXPORT USER=root workaround listed by @etippett here.

@etippett 's workaround worked for me too.
thank you!
