So I'm on a roll today!!! I have a computer that I always run into issues with. It seems to be getting policies and MCX's fine but when you recon it you get an error message:
There was an error submitting the computer to the JSS. Here is what the JSS reported back:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<jamfServlet version="8.1" server="Apache Tomcat/6.0.32">
<institution>Fox Networks Group</institution>
<epoch>1306271567</epoch>
<response>Bad username or password</response>
<sessionLastError></sessionLastError>
</jamfServlet>
I checked out the com.jamfsoftware.jamf.plist and it was all FUBAR'd. I fixed it manually but I am still receiving the error above. Very strange!!!!!!

Once that is complete, run Recon against the machine and it should get added
back in with the correct info.

I did a delete framework and removed it from the JSS, verified that all the accounts and everything was enabled. I am still getting a bad user name and password error when I recon or use a quickadd. Im getting frustrated with OSX today!

Just a side note to your situation:

I also use Casper's MCX capabilities to manage this, Casper Remote and
Casper Admin .plist files as well. Beats having to always specify my
server and other preferences the first time I launch the application.

Do you mind sharing a screenshot of those mcx settings from your jss?
Thanks

Delete the username and password in the JSS as well under that machine's info. Most likely the database in the jSS does not match the machine locally, which is the problem.

I deleted the user record. I've deleted everything. I think its time to just reimage the machine. Now I have another machine doing the same thing. I wonder if its a bug.

I have these four MCX settings for my Casper 7.31 setup:

The com.jamfsoftware.jamf preference file, I believe, is for those background processes that initiate their own connections to the JSS. Those would be daily inventory updates, hourly policy updates, etc. It's located in /Library/Preferences
The com.jamfsoftware.jss preference file is for Casper Remote and Casper Admin to know how to connect to the JSS. It's a user level file located in ~/Library/Preferences. I have these preferences set to "User Level At Every Login" because I need the ability to change them on my own machines for testing purposes.
Earlier versions of Casper actually stored the server settings in com.jamfsoftware.admin or com.jamfsoftware.casperremote. Somewhere around 7.3 or 7.3.1 the server settings were centralized to com.jamfsoftware.jss. I wasn't really paying attention at the time so I'm not sure when.

That is super cool. I think I may do this. Though I am scared of MCX's after all the drama I've had with them.

I made the 2 preferences for system level com.jamfsoftware.jamf.
Does 8.1 not include the other file?
