Your account is locked. Try again in 3 minutes

Hi.,
In my organization, several Mac laptops are experiencing an issue where users enter the correct password, but receive a message stating, "Your account is locked. Try again in 3 minutes." We attempted to send an unlock command via Jamf Pro, but it did not respond or resolve the issue.

As an alternative, we tried resetting the password using the recovery key, and it successfully resolved the issue.

I'm not sure if the recent patches are causing this issue, but I wanted to give a heads-up. If anyone has any insights or suggestions, please share.

All the devices are running macOS Sequoia 15.3.2.

All Apple Devices will have inbuilt brute force protection, the number of times you enter an incorrect password there will be time delays,

if you enter the wrong entry more than 3 times, a time delay will be invoked so you can enter the password only after the delay, it can't be disabled as it is one of the inbuilt security features and sending the unlock command will not have any use,

Either you need to wait for the time dealy to over or use Recovery key to Reset your password.

4 wrong entries - 1 min

5 wrong entries - 5 min

6 wrong entries - 15 min

7 wrong entries - 1 hr

8 wrong entries - 3 hr

9 or more wrong entries - 8 hr

Hi Shyamsundar.,
Thanks for your feedback.

we have almost 100 plus mac laptops. its not affected to all the machines. few it hit this issue. so i don't know what cause an issue. weather the new update breaks anything MDM profile. i did't seen anything in the logs.

Thanks

Try with macOS 15.4 beta 2, it fixes the bug where the Login window doesn't accept the correct password.
