Teacher restrictions not ending

Hi everyone,

I was hoping anyone could help me out. We keep having the same issue where teachers enable restrictions on their classes, and when they select to end it at the end, a couple of students stay restricted... We need to go to the jamf school instance and disable the restrictions manually from there.

We are all using same model devices, same network and bluetooth enabled.

This clearly is a disruption for our students since they either need to stop at the IT office to have their device unrestricted or wait for the restriction time limit to expire.

Hi there,

It sounds like a frustrating issue for both you and the students! Here are a few steps you might consider to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this problem:

Check for Single App Mode/Guided Access Mode: Ensure that students aren't using Single App Mode or Guided Access Mode, which can prevent restrictions from being lifted. You can disable these modes in the Accessibility settings on the devices.

Update Jamf School Configuration Profiles: Make sure your configuration profiles are set up correctly. Navigate to Profiles > Configuration profiles (EU instances) or Profiles > Overview (non-EU instances) in Jamf School. Ensure that the restrictions payload is configured properly and that the time filter is set correctly.

Clear Restrictions Manually: If restrictions persist, you can manually clear them from the Jamf Teacher app or the Jamf School management website. This might be a temporary fix, but it can help students get back to their work quickly.

Cold Reboot: Sometimes a cold reboot (restarting the device completely) can lift restrictions more effectively. However, be cautious about informing students, as they might use this method to bypass restrictions during class.

Check Activity Logs: Review the activity logs in Jamf School to see if there are any additional details about why the restrictions are not being lifted. This might provide more insight into what's going wrong.

I am attaching screenshots of the profile for restrictions, i don't think this is the problem. We don't use Single App mode or Guided Access as far as i know either. Thanks for the input nonetheless.

Encourage students to remind the teacher to remove restrictions at the end of class.

Removing the restrictions before the set Time, is a command that needs to be received by the students devices. So to make sure this command reaches every iPad, it's best to have the iPads online and unlocked, then remove restrictions.

In case the students are still restricted for some reason, it helps (sometimes) to open Jamf Student App, click on Avatar, select device and tap refresh device. this forces the iPad to checkin with jamf servers.

doesn't always work but is worth a try
