+13I've installed 8.63 on a test Mac and restored a backup of our database to it. All the Macs in my inventory show as -Not Enrolled- which is expected.
My plan is to upgrade the test server to 9.11 and see what happens... I want to test it as thoroughly as possible before I deploy 9.11, so can folks give me ideas on what to look for in the test environment?
+9Whenever I update my 8.71 DB to 9.11, I can no longer open any of the Casper Suite applications. I always get errors when parsing data from the JSS, so make sure you can test for this in your environment. I don't have a fix from support yet, but it is likely something to do with my packages or scripts.
+8It depends on what OS youre on as well and how your're using MySQL. If youre using 10.6 server with native MySQL like we had setup (back when we didnt really know any better), youre going to have a bad time. The 10.7 or 10.8 update removes native MySQL functionality, so youre going to need to migrate your database to a separate server first, then upgrade your OS, then upgrade your Casper version.
+7We are also running JSS on 10.7.5 and had a few issues which are still to be resolved.
First we had issues with our home network shares mounting (Active Directory) in the dock, we have found this being cause by user-level managed preferences blocking it somehow. You can have a look at this thread.

We also have the issue which JAMF and said they will fix, basically login window payload for configuration profiles puts in extra stuff which stops the shutdown and restart options in the apple menu aswell as hides all drives, media, connected servers, eject and "go to" options. My advice would be if you have the resources test and test again, make sure you have a back up you can roll back to aswell. We are working around the various options until Jamf fixes the issue, if you would like more information please let me know.
I would recommend upgrading to 8.72 first instead of making the jump straight. I was told that some of the db changes in 9 are similar to the ones implemented in 8.72 and so it might be best to go to that first.
Additionally, unless u're in a real hurry to use some of the new features in 9, I would hold off till 9.2 (I guess) comes out that would also include support for OS 10.9.
I might be wrong, but that's our plan for now.
