I tried the internet recovery on the new MacBook Pro Retina and I got the blinking stopped sign. The Mac is hard wired and it still gives me the stop sign. Is there something wrong with the Internet Recovery or do they not boot into the Internet Recovery or something?

Was anything done to it? I did just that last night on a new out of the box 15" rMBP.
Did it twice actually and it worked fine. Command-Option-R?

I had this happen about a month ago.

Took in two new units. One did this very thing and the other did not. I sent the suspect one back for exchange.

it's bit of work to troubleshoot, plus getting console information on a Retina isn't easy to read.

set the boot arguments in PRAM to -v so it'll boot verbose
clear out the solid state, so there's no bootable volumes
with no bootable volumes, Startup Manager will provide an option at Startup to Internet Recovery after about 30-60 seconds.

you should then be able to observe in which part of the process the system starts to hang or error out, whether it can't reach the Internet to pull down the OS Installer image, or whatever it may be.
