Serial Number "Not Available" in JSS Inventory (One particular MacBook)

There is one MacBook in our system where the JSS is reporting "Not Available" for the Serial Number. No other MacBooks have this inventory issue. This issue existed in 9.2 and continues in 9.3 JSS versions. Luckily we performed a manual inventory recording of the serial number before it was distributed to a user.

Has anyone else seen this issue?

Are you certain the device can see the serial number?

If the logic board was replaced on the machine and a lazy technician did not re-flash the serial it will display as Not Available in the OS (and thus recon reports). Can you check the device itself to see if the serial is reported?

Yep, my guess is a trip to the Apple Store, or an Apple Authorized Service Provider, will be required to write the serial number to the new/replaced logic board.

We learned last week that machines labeled 'Not Available' won't get config profiles. This is 'as expected' according to JAMF, so something else to keep an eye out for.
