Before supervision mode was made available via the Apple Configurator we had deployed around 500 iPads using JAMF. Our iPad rollout is 1:1 with student and teachers. We've recently started using the VPP program for our students and teachers to download paid apps. If a student/teacher ever leaves or if we purchase an app for a specific year group, we are not able to pull the VPP code back unless we un-enrol the device. This biggest issue is the end of year when students move up a year and the app we purchased for specific year groups can not be transferred to the new students.

Apple Configurator allows the redemption of VPP codes if the iPad has the Supervision profile. Will JAMF ever have the option to enrol devices with the Supervision mode or is this something that's locked to Apple Configurator.

As of right now, thats locked to Configurator. Apple is working on OTA supervision and JAMF will leverage that once it is made available.

This was discussed at a bit at JNUC this year. IIRC, OTA Supervision is not something that Apple supports at this time. Though, to quote one of the presenters at the session where it was discussed, "Nobody should be surprised if, sometime in the near future, this feature were to become available".

So if you have not given out the VPP codes yet, try to hold off. But if you have, then those have been redeemed by the students and you should budget to repurchase those next year.
