I had read a post over on MacE about this and thought I would give it a try with the new MacBook Air. if you boot to recovery you can essentially install Lion to an external drive and you are able to extract the InstallESD.dmg for that model. Here are the steps:
- Boot into Recovery Mode
- Goto Terminal -> /Install Mac OS X Lion.app/Contents/MacOS/Install Mac OS X Lion &
- Install to an external drive (make sure you have an extra partition free)
- At the point where it prompts you to reboot, go back to Terminal and goto /Volumes/ExternalDrive/Mac OS X Install Data/
- cp InstallESD.dmg to another partition.
- Quit the installation process
After that I copied the InstallESD.dmg up to my test JSS and told it that it was an OS X installer file (You need to do this from the MacBook Air). Made a Config and Compiled it (From the MacBook Air as well). The build of OS X was 11A2063. I'm guessing that I'm going to have to make a netboot image on the MacBook Air now(that should be fun).
Thanks
