I haven't seen the new Adobe CS5 installers yet, so I can't say anything

about them. Not holding my breath but cautiously optimistic.

However, we've been told that the Acrobat installer will be a .pkg
installer. That may be good or it may not.

We have licenses for both the full CS suites as well as the individual
installers. Acrobat has always been the challenge, especially after
installation (self-heal, registration, etc.). Yes, we've discovered
workarounds and tools for managing Acrobat's behavior, but I really don't
expect Adobe to "get it right the first time". Moving to an Apple Installer
file is definitely a step in the right direction, though.

With that said, earlier this morning I stumbled upon this document that was
released just a couple of weeks ago from Adobe:

Acrobat-Reader Updater: A configuration and user guide For the Acrobat Product Family 9.2 and 8.1.7 and later

.pdf>

The PDF is written for administrators and details the new Acrobat updater
present in both 8.1.7 and 9.2.x. Although it's titled for "Reader", the
introduction says it's for the Acrobat family of products. The document is
for both Mac and Windows and details how to make Windows registry as well as
Mac OS X .plist changes to control the Acrobat updater.

For me, this is another step in the right direction.

FYI... I just received my 'updated' Adobe CS5 Design Premium media from Adobe Licensing, and the Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 install continues to be a drag and drop into the Applications folder, proceeded by the usual automated self-healing to finish installing the other various bits that are associated with the application.

I know the Acrobat Pro install is a drag-install, and that patches are proper PKG format. So the former is simple enough to package.
